Game Summary

3 months ago by Jim Hill - The Voice of the Eagles

Game Date
Jan 16, 2021

The Eagles were eager to start a new season under 3rd year head coach Anthony Mills but on Saturday afternoon @ The Forge the Massaponax Panthers made sure they didn't get that first win of 2021. The Panthers have been playing since late December and came in with a record of 2-3 overall (1-2 in District play). The practicing just 5 days prior to this one, and it showed.

Panther center Devin Johnson had 14 rebounds and four blocked shots on the afternoon while tossing in 8 points for Ponax. The majority of the Panther offense came from the perimeter shooting of Dalen Ainsworth (14 points and Kaiden Rosenbaum 12 points and played the role of the scrapper registering 5 steals while dishing out 5 assists.

The Eagles were led by Gabriel Jones with 12 points, but he was the only Eagle in double figures as the Forge fell to 0-1 on the season. The Forge trailed 18-9 after one and 28-19 at the break. They made their one and only run of the game in the third quarter cutting the Ponax lead to a single point before the Panthers pulled away.

The Eagles will return to the home hardwood on Tuesday night when they host the Stafford Indians at 7pm.

THE MORE THINGS CHANGE, THE MORE THINGS ARE CHANGED: We have all been effected by the changes of the past 10 months, and we just have to make adjustments on the fly if we want to get back to normal. Take Forge Principal Greg Daniel for example. Saturday afternoon was the first game in his tenure where he could not be seen with a bag of popcorn in his hand watching his Eagles play. There are alot of FIRSTS to come this year, and that sight was just the start of the 2021 list. I reminded Mr. Daniel of this stat at halftime and he confirmed it and simply explained, "I'm gonna have to bring my own" to get thing s back on track.
